Youth Knights!
This is a special
invitation to join us for our first meeting of the fall on September 13, from 6 to 7:30.
Well share supper together and talk about our plans for the coming year, which
include a trip to the Revolve Tour in Baltimore on September 25-26 (for our ladies) and
another Coffee House talent night in November. This year, were going to talk about
ways that we can use our talents during the worship services and how we can put our faith
into action, by taking part in service projects (like our 30-Hour Famine event in
February). Weve already got a great group of youth together, and wed love to
have YOU join us! So if youre new to the area, or just entering middle school, or
maybe youve been sitting on the sidelines wondering what were all about,
nows your chance to find out. Were about fun, and fellowship, and finding
outtogetherwhat Gods purpose is in our lives.
The best way to keep informed about all our events (even if you cant make it
every time) is to get on our e-mail list. E-mail to Jim Carman at
james.carman@wilsoncenter.org, or call him at 703-960-8746. We usually meet on Sunday
evenings at 6, unless were doing a special event. You can also check out our page on
the churchs website, where we also try to post pictures of some of the things
weve done.
See you on September 13th!

YOUTH KNIGHTS NEWS
"Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen:
to loose the chains of injustice
and untie the cords of the yoke,
to set the oppressed free
and break every yoke?
Is it not to share your food with the hungry
and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter
when you see the naked, to clothe him,
and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?
Then your light will break forth like the dawn,
and your healing will quickly appear;
then your righteousness will go before you,
and the glory of the LORD will be your rear guard."
With these words from the prophet Isaiah (58: 6-8), the Youth Knights commit themselves
in February to the 30 Hour Famine. This time of fasting and service (February
2627) is a transformative experience that offers a chance to turn faith into action
in combating hunger around the world and in our own community. Heres how you can
help:
Snow Changes !! Call
Jim Carmen for changes to schedule for Feb 7-14 events!
Make a donation. Consider sponsoring a youth with a per-hour pledge or other
offering. Each dollar raised will go to support World Vision.
Buy a hoagie! The youth will be selling Super Bowl Hoagies on February 7, after
both services. Pick up the sandwich you ordered in advance or stop by for any extras.
Come to the Valentine Lunch. On February 14, after the second service, the youth
will be hosting a spaghetti lunch in Skelton Hall, specially decorated for the occasion.
Invite that special someone and enjoy a delicious meal and romantic music. A freewill
offering will go to World Vision.
Pray for the Youth. The 30 Hour Famine is not just a Youth event; it
involves the entire congregation. The Youth Knights appreciate your support and prayers in
everything they do, but particularly as they take part in this challenging mission. Please
consider coming to the closing service at Friendship UMC on February 27, at 4 p.m. as
youth from our church and elsewhere in the community bear witness to their renewed
commitment to Christian service.

Carman at james.carman@wilsoncenter.org or 703-960-8746.
