The Organ

The 21-rank, 2 manual Zimmer Pipe Organ was designed, built, and voiced specifically for Cameron's sanctuary. The organ, with 1334 pipes, is freestanding and wholly in this room.

A 21-note set of chimes and 6-bell Zimbelstern are located high in the case atop the swell box.

The contract price of the organ was $120,000. Accessories, not included in the contract price but given as separate gifts, are the adjustable bench, the multi-level combination action memory system, the chimes, and the Zimbelstern, making the price of the organ $125,490.

The Zimmer truck carrying our organ arrived at the church Monday, 5 March 1990, met by more than 40 people. The truck was unloaded with assembly and installation directed by head voicer, James Twyne and technician, Henry Hawkinson, both of the Zimmer Company, with help from church volunteers.

Installation was completed by Wednesday, 7 March 1990 followed by the weeklong process of tuning and voicing.

The organ was played for the first time in worship on Sunday, 18 March 1990.

At the 11:00 a.m. worship service, 22 April 1990, the organ was dedicated by Alexandria District Superintendent Dr. F. Douglas Dillard.

The Dedicatory Concert was held 7:00 p.m. 22 April and played by Dr. Eileen Morris Guenther.
